Shilpgram
Literally meaning a "Craftsmen's Village"
is a living ethnographic museum depicting the enormous
diversities in craft, art & culture between various
Indian states, but the exquisite terracotta work mainly
in dark red and dark brown sand material along with
the wooden carvings are the forte of this ethnic village
. Shilpgram comprises 26 huts set in 70 acres of natural
surroundings at the foot of the Aravali Hills.A colourful
craft festival during winter seasons to the whole set
up induces viatanity and zeal.
Mewar Festival In Udaipur
It is very difficult to calculate the exact number of
Indian festivals celebrated all-over the country. India
has equivalent number of cultures and traditional practices
at par with the castes and creeds. Each culture has
it own customs practices, traditions, beliefs and even
specific festivals but the underlying them of all the
practices remains the same. These Indian festivals are
celebrated to bring happiness and harmony in the minds
of the people. So the diverse Indian festivals again
prove the truth of the phrase" Unity in diversity".
In this section we will be speaking particularly about
the Mewar festival celebrated in Udaipur. Though there
are numerous fairs and festival a grand celebration
of the Mewar festival is held at Udaipur city. The white
silvery lakes, the shinning marble palaces boasting
of its spotless texture amidst the glittering rays of
the sun is a sharp contrast to the dazzling multi colored
Mewar festival.
The mewar festival in Udaipur is celebrated in the
month of April. The main features of this mewar fair
is the chanting of devotional songs and folk music,
performing cultural programs, practicing all the age-old
rituals, and cracking bight fireworks in the night.
The women are dressed up in the best clothes and take
active participation in the procession. They also dress
the deity in best of clothes. They worship Isar and
Gangaur and after dressing the deity they carry the
procession along with their deity to the different parts
of the Udaipur city. The religious procession ends in
the Gangaur Ghat at Lake Pichhola. There they take the
idol with them in the special boat and they sink the
deity their in the water amidst all the hymns and chants.
The darkness of the night is illuminated with decorative
crackers and fireworks. In the night you can enjoy the
Rajasthani cultural programs. Their festive colorful
dances, folksongs and other melodies are sure to rejuvenate
the body, mind and soul.
